Timothy and Steve discuss the ins and outs of Engine Awesome, including how we use Gutenberg outside of WordPress.

We're excited to share that Timothy and I recently appeared on the WP Tavern podcast to discuss Engine Awesome.

What We Discussed

We covered the "why" and "how" behind our company, including some interesting technical details about how we built Engine Awesome.

Gutenberg Outside WordPress

One of the most interesting parts of our conversation was about Gutenberg—but not how you might expect. We talked about using Gutenberg outside of WordPress.

Gutenberg is open source, and when we began working on Engine Awesome and needed a way for our clients to interact with it, we found Gutenberg was the perfect tool for the job.

The Benefits of Gutenberg

We discussed:

  • What benefits we've gained by using Gutenberg
  • How it's saved us development time
  • How it's becoming a stable and mature product
  • Why it's easy for non-technical users to understand

Laravel + Gutenberg

We also dove into the pros and cons of integrating Gutenberg with Laravel, our backend framework. It's a unique approach that lets us combine the best of both worlds.

A Familiar Environment

If you're well-versed in WordPress, you'll find Engine Awesome a familiar environment. We've leveraged the WordPress ecosystem while building something entirely new—a platform that makes it easy for businesses to create custom solutions without needing to be coding wizards.
